Hope springs eternal, indeed. And Kursk is a precedent worth considering. But V. Putin’s army isn’t the Red Army and he himself is no Stalin.

Historical examples only go so far.
Only after the history is written can we discover which examples were correct (and why).
But we armchair historians love to speculate.
