While you get entangled in all of these details, you still miss the forest for the trees that beholden you. The original point was so much larger than this detail. Good day and blessings to you.

Those “details” are known as facts. And facts, you know, are the trees that comprise the forest.

How you get to rise into power, in any given system is irrelevant if the end result is the same. Just because the Earth is round, but your floor in your home is level, does not mean there is contradiction to both being true at the same time. Hitler was voted in at a point, and then was appointed later. I think you focus more on the how he got there than you should on the what he did once he arrived, which is the point.

Diane - i think you are missing how parliamentary democracy works. Being "voted in" to parliament is not the same as being elected President. Sure Hitler was "voted in" since his party won enough votes to get him into the Reichstag. His appointment as Chancellor could have been avoided - as Thomas has correctly pointed out.

Which is to say, history is irrelevant. Got it—and thanks for reinforcing my point!

Or - which is to say that multiple things can be true at the same time - especially when it comes to historical events. The issue is what is the measure of the data? If we are talking about knowing the facts for a history test that is one thing - if we are talking about the overall arcing of history and the trajectory with which Hitler’s tenure provided, that is a whole other point.

Without disrespect, I must note that I probably know far more about modern German history than you do: not just the relevant facts but their deep meaning. That's why I know that it's ridiculous—surpassingly stupid—to describe Donald Trump as a fascist. You can do that only by closing your eyes to historical reality and barfing out word salad like "multiple things can be true at the same time." Do tell!

I suppose it's true in a way that certain aspects of contemporary America resemble late Weimar Germany, for instance the mobs of ravening antisemites on campus and in the streets—but oops! Those mobs are made up of progressive activists. How's that for "the overall arching of history"?

As you pointed out "progressives" then - Moscow dominated German Communist Party put Hitler into office, much like progressives now, in their visceral hatred of the US, of Jews and of Freedom in general, seem to support a similar platform.
