Needless to say, the Bratgirl Admiration Society is singing the praises of Kamala Harris who, as her adoring fans allege, wiped the floor with Fox News anchor Brett Baier during last night’s interview. Sample: “Simply by going on the right-wing network, Harris was demonstrating dominance.”
You will not be surprised to learn that Un-Woke in Indiana begs to differ.
The Baier/Harris interview lasted twenty-six minutes—Harris arrived late—and once again the candidate was exposed as an empty vessel. If she actually answered any of Baier’s questions, I must have missed that. What I did see was a lot of playacting, blustering, dodging, and filibustering. Rather obviously Harris was striving to exhibit the profile of a tough, no-nonsense leader who will “turn the page.” But as she rattled off her dreary talking points in a quavering voice, the Vice President merely looked nervous and uncomfortable—more of a blank slate than a turned page.
Perhaps Harris’ worst moment came when Baier asked her when she’d first become aware that President Biden was in mental decline. After all, he noted, she saw him on a regular basis. Her non-answer was that Biden is a wonderful chief executive who has made good decisions and is doing a wonderful job for the American people.
And besides, Harris added, Joe Biden isn’t on the ballot.
Which compels the question: Why isn’t he on the ballot? Are we supposed to believe that kindly old Scranton Joe graciously stepped aside to make way for a new generation of leadership? Please. The fact is that the Democrats, like the conspirators against Julius Ceasar, decided that Biden had to go, and Harris was happy to wield a dagger.
But that was just the low point of a comprehensively unimpressive performance. Her evasions on immigration and border security verged on the farcical. Harris claimed that “within hours” of taking their oaths of office in 2021, she and Biden proposed a bill to “fix our broken immigration system.” In fact, the U.S. Citizenship Act was an open-borders amnesty measure that would have cleared a path to legal residence and citizenship for as many as eleven million illegal immigrants in the United States. The House and Senate, both controlled at that time by the Democrats, wouldn’t touch it, however, and the bill went nowhere.
Incidentally, the introduction of the U.S. Citizenship Act was accompanied by a flurry of executive orders reversing Trump Administration border security and immigration measures. Since then, an estimated six million illegals have entered the country. But of course, Harris blames Trump for this catastrophe. Indeed, even though the Biden Administration has been running the show for almost four years now, everything that’s wrong with America today is down to the Prince of the Golden Escalator. That’s Harris’ lame excuse for the Biden Administration’s gross incompetence.
Harris also blustered about her “economic plan” and its great superiority to Trump’s tax-the-poor conspiracy. Harris has no plan, of course, but only a grab bag of goodies that she claims can be paid for by making selfish rich people and greedy corporations pay their “fair share.” This, one of the most ancient liberal/progressive bromides, is palmed off on voters as a new and innovative policy. But in the context of a $35 trillion national debt and annual budget deficits touching $2 trillion, her “plan” is pure fantasy.
It’s to be seriously doubted whether any of the few remaining undecided voters were persuaded by Harris’ dismal performance that she has what it takes to serve as president. The fact that the election’s a jump ball is itself a tell. Kamala Harris is running against Donald Trump, remember, a man with enough baggage to clog an airport carousel. She has a billion dollars. She has the unified support of her party. She had the enthusiastic, dare I say joyful, support of what her fans are now calling the “corporate media”—which only wavered when she absolutely refused to interact with the media. Yet with all those advantages, Harris hasn’t managed to move into the lead.
How could this be? Well, to repeat a point that I’ve had occasion to make several times since July, Kamala Harris is a dud.
Correction: National debt is $35.8 TRILLION. Cumulative obligations near $210 TRILLION.
Aside from that, thank you for writing this so I don't have to. The woman is a complete moron. My favorites from the exchange:
Cackles: “You and I both know what I’m talking about.”
Bret: “I actually don’t know what you’re talking about.”
============
Bret: "79% of people say the nation is on the wrong track. You’ve been in charge for 3.5 years, so what are you turning the page on? "
Cackles: "A bunch of Swamp Dwellers say Donald Trump is dangerous. Nanny nanny boo boo, stick your head in doo-doo. That is a fact. That is a FACT!"
The mere fact that she trots out that old “fair share” argument indicates to me that not only is she an idiot, she thinks we are idiots as well. Yes, the rich need to pay their fair share - does that include her husband? Nancy Pelosi and her insider trading deals? Daniel Goldman? Mark Warner? Funny that they never think of themselves as wealthy, or not paying their fair share. What exactly has she or Biden done for the middle class? What is she offering now, except pie-in-the-sky cash windfalls for minorities?
