This feels very much like the Sixties! They all need to remember the National Guard shooting at Kent State took the steam out of many protests thereafter.
I typically agree with your viewpoints. I agree with the majority of this article. What I don't agree with is your characterizing January 6 as an invasion. Yes, those who enabled the protest entering the Capitol were wrong, as were those who entered. The enablers were guilty of felonies, as you well know, and the protesters were guilty of misdemeanor trespass.
When you say "This includes Donald J. Trump, whose refusal to concede the 2020 election to Joe Biden and false charges of electoral fraud did much to incite his more oafish and irresponsible followers" I must disagree with you. The 2020 election was interfered with, the vote count is ridiculously inflated for Biden, and knowing these facts, why should Trump have conceded? As to oafish and irresponsible followers, every movement there ever was has them. The Democrat party seems pretty well infested with them.
And yes, Trump has flaws - we all do. He also is working to give you back your country. When we stop looking for perfect and accept good enough we'll all be better off. That doesn't make the unforced errors any easier to digest, it just leaves hope that things will, and do, get better.
You missed the part where the head of the democratic party said the the DNC now includes those who support "globalize the intifada" or "from the river to the sea' demagoguery. The democrats have lost the plot entirely.
Congress needs to reconstitute HUAC and unleash it, starting with the billionaire donors and their NGOs and funding networks.

I’m not clear about any pro-democracy angle here. This sounds like what you are doing is white washing many incidents of disregarding the law.
How you could possibly have reached that conclusion is beyond me.

Actually I did mention that in passing.
My bad. I need to read closer.
