Many public commentators -- ones who are not historians by training -- will pay lip service to "the lessons of History" in their columns about current affairs. All too often this is empty bloviation without adequate explanation of what historical event provides the teachable example. Your commentaries on military affairs, however, do the opposite: you do your readers a great service by going not some detail when giving examples of what you are talking about. This is helpful to readers who may be, like myself, generally aware of the example but not the details. A tip of the hat to you.
