Very interesting!

Do you happen to know what was involved in the conversions from fleet destroyer to escort destroyer?

Yes, for the four-piper DE conversions one boiler and one funnel were removed, decreasing maximum speed to twenty-five knots. The 4in guns and all torpedo tubes were replaced by 6 × 3in DP (dual purpose) guns and a variable number of 20mm light AA guns. Sonar was fitted and the antisubmarine armament was increased to 2 x DC (depth charge) racks, 6 x DC throwers and a Hedgehog DC mortar. However, a few of the DE conversions retained their 4in guns.
