Quick Take: You're a Hypocrite (But So Am I)
Democrats and progressives apply a postmodern update to an age-old political vice
So Nancy Pelosi’s husband got assaulted by a crazy man and it’s really the Republican Party’s fault—because, you know, Republicans say such mean things about Nancy Pelosi.
Ho-hum.
If political rhetoric is truly to be judged by that ridiculous standard, we may as well tear up the First Amendment, which come to think of it would probably make a lot of progressives happy. But really, this isn’t a standard at all—it’s a political gimmick. See, calling Nancy Pelosi a commie or a socialist or an evil old shrew is out of bounds. But there are dispensations available for people who call Donald Trump a Nazi, Brett Kavanaugh a sexual predator, Republicans a cabal of racists.
Now of course the attack on Paul Pelosi was atrocious. But it was no more the fault of “Republicans” than the attempted assassination of Justice Brett Kavanaugh or the knife attack on New York GOP gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin were the fault of “Democrats” or “progressives.” Not that our absurd president was so scrupulous. He and many members of his party were quick to place the blame on their political opponents. Well, fine! Then the attempted assassination of Kavanaugh was the fault of Biden and Democrats and pro-abortion groups. See how easy—and dishonest and stupid and vile—that was?
Though Democrats, liberals, progressives, etc. did not invent hypocrisy, they’ve certainly perfected it as a tool of politics. A party that believes in so many things that simply aren’t true, e.g. that a man can get pregnant and bear a child, needs all the help it can get on the mental hygiene front. With truly remarkable fanaticism the comrades promote a postmodern ideology of gender with no basis in reality—yet they call their political opponents “anti-science”! Well, I may have my doubts about climate alarmism, but I do know that a man most definitely cannot become pregnant. The only “people who can become pregnant”— to steal a term from the gender stormtroopers—are women. It’s Science! You could look it up!
In Georgia, Herschel Walker is running as a pro-life GOP senatorial candidate, this despite the fact that back in the day he probably paid for some girlfriends’ abortions. That’s hypocritical if you like—but how about the progressives who are denouncing him over this? Since when have they had a problem with a black guy paying for his girlfriend’s abortion? Since never, if New York City abortion stats are to be believed. In the Big Apple, more black babies are aborted than are born alive; perhaps Black Lives Matter should investigate. Between Walker and his progressive critics, I have no trouble deducing who’s scoring higher on the hypocrisy scale.
Also in Georgia we have Stacey Abrams, Rightful Governor of the Peach State and Dauntless Defender of “Our Democracy,” who happens be an election denier. Democrats and progressives insist that there’s nothing more heinous, more destructive of institutional norms, more dangerous to “our democracy,” than questioning or denying the results of an election. But they do it all the time. And you can bet they’ll do it again this year, whining and crying that their defeat was due to fraud, gerrymandering, voter suppression, Jim Crow 2.0 on Steroids in a Coat & Tie, blah, blah, blah. Hypocrisy? You bet!
When you’re going down for the third time, it’s only natural to grasp at straws. That’s why Joe Biden’s out there blaming ultra-mega-mugger-MAGA Republicans for the assault on Paul Pelosi—as if that’ll distract Americans from the dismal reality of their rising grocery bills and cratering retirement accounts. Fifty New Yorkers can be pushed off subway platforms and progressives won’t even notice. And if you notice, they’ll call you a racist. Yet now they’re in a three-foot hover of indignation over one specific violent crime—mostly because they think it gives them political leverage.
How’s that for a glaring example of hypocrisy, as practiced by the Party of Facts & Evidence & Logic & Science & All Things Doubleplusgoodthinkful?
