Notes on the Way
Mostly peaceful, Minnesota barbarism, social justice porn, migrant tantrum, Madonna
What do you know? Protests subsequent to the killing in Memphis, Tennessee, of a young black man by five police officers have been “mostly peaceful”—no, really! How could that be? Well, the five officers—ex-officers now; they were promptly sacked—are all black. This deprived the smoldering flame of outrage of that essential accelerant: “white supremacy.” Oh, there have been some lame attempts here and there in the media to argue that black cops are agents of the white supremacist regime, etc. and so forth, but nobody really buys it. Perhaps that’s because what happened in Minneapolis underscores the reality that most young black men who are killed in America die at the hands of other black men…
There’s also news from Minnesota, where the state legislature has passed, and the governor is poised to sign, an abortion law that’s positively shocking in its bloody-mindedness. The law will remove absolutely all restrictions on abortion, which is bad enough. But even worse, it contains a provision allowing minors to opt for permanent sterilization without parental consent. Think about that: If you’re a parent living in the North Star State, your thirteen-year-old daughter will be empowered to make a life-altering decision without your permission or even your knowledge. The Great Progressive Death Ride speeds on…
According to progressives, if you object to sexualized course content in early public education, you’re “weaponizing pedophilia.” That’s Matthew Roza’s argument in this article for Salon. It’s a typical specimen of leftie agitprop, linking those perfectly reasonable objections to the Red Scare of the Fifties, Anita Bryant’s anti-gay crusade, etc. etc. But Roza gives the game away by quoting Gillian Frank, a Princeton University professor specializing in religion, sexuality, and gender. In his opinion, such objections are “deployed to not talk about the issues of social equality, economic equality, the status of people's citizenship and recognition, their right to privacy or protection.” How protecting third graders from graphic sexual material prevents discussions of such issues is not explained, no doubt because it can’t be explained. As always, the real issue for progressives is power—in this case power over the minds of public-school students.
Gratitude and compassion seem in short supply among the current crop of migrants (for which read illegal immigrants). In New York City a bunch of unaccompanied male illegals are resisting a move from the Manhattan hotel in which they’re currently quartered to a new facility at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. City officials want to clear the hotel to make space for family groups—which makes the protesters appear insensitive to the needs of their comrades in migration, besides being ungrateful to the nation that has taken them in. Memo to Mayor Eric Adams and his NYC constituents: In the Age of Postmodern Progressivism, no good deed goes unpunished. This is what you get for being a sanctuary city…
We were overdue for some good news, and I’m happy to report that Universal Pictures has scrapped plans for a Madonna biopic. That was close…
