Notes on the Way
Mayoral moans, love & unemployment, the real terrorists, top secret woes, big tanks
America‘s big cities are in sorry shape, and their residents—especially those less well-to-do—are hurting. Rising crime rates, housing shortages, high unemployment and general economic stagnation take their toll. But courtesy of Annie Lowry, writing in The Atlantic, we know who’s hurting even more: big-city mayors. It’s just hard being a mayor these days, she sobs. Look at poor Lori Lightfoot in Chicago. She did her best and it’s so unfair that voters in the Windy City are likely to boot her out in next month’s mayoral election. Pardon me, Annie, but if Mayor Lightfoot wasn’t such an incompetent dud, maybe she and her city wouldn’t be circling the drain together…
Love will find a way to screw up your career and your whole life. Just ask former Good Morning America co-anchors T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach. They were suspended by ABC, then sacked, when their adulterous affair went public in a big way. Holmes has now filed for divorce, to the accompaniment of his wife’s lament that he displayed “lack of discretion, respect.” You think? The scandal is said to have enraged their GMA colleague Robin Roberts, who felt that it sullied the show’s wholesome image. Reportedly, she confronted her misbehaving colleagues and told them to “Just stop.” It seems the network brass agreed. The compromised couple may be consenting adults and all, but the Sexual Revolution has run its course and censorious puritanism is making a comeback…
Remember when parents were branded as domestic terrorists by the Loudoun County (Virginia) School Board, school administrators, The National School Boards Association, and the Biden Justice Department? Well, it turns out that the real terrorists were the members of the school board and school administrators. They orchestrated a coverup of two sexual assaults—all in the name of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion of course! The rapist was a male high school student who identified as “genderfluid,” and he claimed his first victim in a female bathroom on school property. When the girl’s father sought to raise the issue with administrators and the school board, he was put off. And when he persisted, he was arrested and dragged out of a school board meeting. School administrators tried to hush the whole thing up by transferring the rapist to another school, where he promptly assaulted another female student. Thanks to Governor Glenn Youngkin, whose first action upon assuming office was to sign an executive order empaneling a special grand jury to investigate the matter, the full, atrocious story is now known.
Joe Biden being who and what he is, the hits just keep on coming. Literally as I’ve been writing these notes the news broke that another batch of classified documents has been found in Top Secret Joe’s Wilmington, Delaware residence. There’s no word yet as to where, precisely, they were securely tucked away—in the presidential sock drawer, perhaps? All I can say is, this nothingburger is looking more and more like a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, and Donald Trump is one lucky guy…
Putin’s Little Helpers in the ranks of national conservatism are constantly complaining that the US is bearing the full burden of NATO’s support for Ukraine while our European allies sit on their hands. This is and always has been a canard, and there’s news today that underlines the bad-faith falsity of the natcon line. The United Kingdom has announced that it will be supplying a dozen Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine. The Challenger is the British Army’s main battle tank, comparable to the US Army’s M1A2 Abrams, and is armed with a 120mm gun. Reportedly, Poland is also planning to provide Ukraine with twelve or fourteen of its German-made Leopard 2PL tanks, comparable to the Challenger 2 and the Abrams. That’s some serious firepower…
