Apparently New York City’s political class didn’t expect to be taken quite so readily at its word when it it declared the Big Apple to be a sanctuary city. But that’s what Greg Abbot, the Republican Governor of Texas, has done. Recently a first busload of illegal immigrants arrived in NYC courtesy of the Lone Star State— to the consternation of Mayor Eric Adams and other city leaders, who are decrying Abbot’s “political stunt.” Oh, and of course they’re demanding federal funds to defray the unexpectedly high cost of their virtue signaling. How very…progressive…of them.
Wow! According to his giddy media bootlickers, President Biden has just scored a “legacy-defining” win. And you know what? It’s kind of true that passage of the Inflation Reduction Act will define our hapless chief executive’s legacy. Joe Biden has long been known as a clueless dolt and compulsive liar. Now, with the assistance of his fellow Democrats, that legacy is secure. For the Inflation Reduction Act does two things: juice federal spending (mostly on “climate change”) and raise taxes (on those, evil, greedy corporations, natch). How is this supposed to reduce inflation? Shut up, the Biden Administration explains.
The passage of the Inflation Reduction Act has also sent a thrill up the legs of the Democratic Party’s media accomplices. Suddenly the Dems have momentum! The dreaded Red Wave is petering out! Well, considering that the Inflation Reduction Act is basically a climate-change bill, and that climate change resides at the bottom of voters’ list of concerns just now, such claims of a turnaround should perhaps be taken with a grain of salt. There’s no reason to think that the country’s dismal economic situation will improve any time soon, crime runs rampant, the southern border is a chaotic mess, and the President’s approve/disapprove rating remains deep underwater. Even some in his own party and the media want him to forego a second term.
In other Orwellian rebranding news, the North Korean government has reportedly offered to supply the Russian Army with 100,000 volunteers for its war of aggression and genocide in Ukraine. But wait, volunteers? Since when has anybody in the Worker’s Paradise of North Korea volunteered for anything? For one of the charms of that country’s scientifically socialist system is that volunteerism has been rendered obsolete: Anything not compulsory is forbidden.
The odious Alex Jones, who claimed that the mass shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School was a false-flag operation carried out by “crisis actors”, has been hit with a grand total of $49.3 million in compensatory and punitive damages in a lawsuit filed by parents of the murdered school children. Twenty students and six teachers were killed in the 2012 massacre. Jones, a notorious radical right-wing conspiracy theorist, had alleged that the shooting was concocted by the government to provide a pretext for suppressing Second Amendment rights. It was a disheartening sign of the times that Jones’ lies, widely broadcast via his “news service,” Infowars, were believed by large numbers of people. But now this bully has been decisively slapped down. Good.
