Notes on the Way
Deep State redux, rally for Israel, Bay State shame, Dems panic, Adams eyed, Hunter hilarity
In an amusing twist, the Deep State has come for Joe Biden. A cohort of “anti-Zionist” nosebleeds in the State Department is up in arms over the President’s position on Israel’s war with Hamas: They think that the United States ought not to be supporting those beastly Jews. Their complain is accompanied by a flood of crocodile tears over the plight of Palestinian civilians in Gaza—though unaccompanied by any recognition that the responsibility for that plight rests squarely with Hamas. Instead, these terrorist-hugging dissidents whine and cry about Israeli “war crimes.” Numerous State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development staffers, many in their twenties and thirties, have signed on to memos denouncing their boss, Joe Biden. In short, the agencies of our government charged with the management of foreign policy are full of backstabbing, disloyal antisemites. Good to know!
Yesterday in Washington DC, some 300,000 people rallied in support of Israel—and the optics of the event could not have been more different than those of the antisemitic pro-Hamas rallies that have disgraced the streets of America’s cities and university campuses since October 7. There were no masks, no quasi-fascist chants, no manifestations of racial hatred, no support for terrorist atrocities. Having seen America at its very worst in the collective persona of the Jew-bashing progressive Left, on Monday, November 14, we saw America at its best. And the rally was a pointed reminder to the other side that the American people stand with Israel, not with the poster-ripping, Jew-bashing rats who express their support for “Palestine” by screaming for genocide.
I was born and raised in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts—or as I prefer to think of it these days, the People’s Democratic Socialist Republic of Massachusetts. In one of those tricks of fate that influences our lives when we’re making other plans, I moved to Indiana in 1982 and, as it turned out, I never left. The Hoosier state is home now—thank God. And I thanked Him again this morning when I happened on this story: Massachusetts town approves proposal to fly Palestinian flag. Thank you also, North Andover, for validating my decision to abandon the Bay State. And shame on you for flying that rag below the Stars & Stripes and the POW/MIA Flag…
The media is full of “Don’t Panic, Democrats” stories these days: a sure sign that Democrats are indeed panicking over a recent spate of polls showing that Joe Biden is cordially disliked by an impressive majority of Americans. Name the issue—the economy, the border, his age and fitness to serve, etc., etc.—and people will tell you that they hate what he’s doing. What is more, Donald J. Trump he of ninety-odd felony indictments and a host of other political liabilities, is polling ahead of the President in several swing states, including Pennsylvania and Michigan. It’s enough to make a political prognosticator’s head spin! I find it hard to believe that Trump could actually beat Biden in 2024…but then lots of people found it hard to believe that he could beat Hillary Clinton in 2016…
In other news, New York City mayor Eric Adams is the target of a campaign finance investigation. Adams, a former NYPD captain, was elected in 2022 on a law-and-order platform. Despite his rather sketchy and erratic history, I wished him well. Anybody, I reasoned, would be an improvement over his predecessor, the ludicrous Bill DeBlasio. And so it proved, though admittedly the bar was low, and Adams often failed to impress. Now the FBI is probing contacts between Adams and the Turkish government through Turkish businessmen and expats in the US. It’s suspected that the Mayor has accepted favors, including illegal campaign contributions, in exchange for his help furthering Turkish business interests in the Big Apple. You know, it’s somehow reassuring that in this time of crisis, good old-fashioned political corruption is still with us…
And speaking of political corruption, the Hunter Biden saga rumbles on. And the First Son’s lawyers are to be thanked for a moment of true comedy: They’re proposing to subpoena former president Donald Trump, former attorney general Bill Barr and others in an attempt to show that their client is being “vindictively prosecuted.” And for all anybody knows, Hunter really feels that way: The nerve of some people, demanding that he be held to the same standard as the proles! But really, Hunter’s lawyers must be smoking crack with him, because putting Trump on the stand could backfire in a big, big way. In fact, I’d kind of like to see it happen…
After October 7th, I was shocked by the "upsurge in antisemitism".
I was wrong; the antisemitism has always been there.
People just feel empowered to come out from the dark.
Why is there such a deep strain of hatred towards Jews?
Is it racial memory, leaders poisoning the well, envy, Jewish insularity?
I would like to hear some thoughts on that.
