The radical Left’s long march through the institutions has finally brought the comrades to their final destination: not a fiery airline disaster, nor a horrific multi-vehicle highway accident, nor a rollercoaster massacre, nor a racetrack inferno, nor a bridge collapse, but a fashion statement: the keffiyeh, symbol of terrorism and genocide. And so we can finally and definitely dismiss the Left’s claim that it stands tall in the defense of “our democracy.”
There will be those who protest that my indictment is indiscriminate; they might proffer the excuse that the Hamas-hugging radical Left is unrepresentative of the broad Left—which is not antisemitic but antiwar. Horrified by the carnage in Gaza, Democrats and progressives just want the fighting to stop, so that diplomacy can resolve the dispute. So goes the narrative. But it won’t do.
In fact, there is no bright line dividing the keffiyeh-wearing radicals from the progressive Left and the Democratic Party. The whole of the Left, broadly defined, is implicated in the genocidal ideology of its radical fringe. In Congress, the House and Senate caucuses of the Democratic Party include people like Ilhan Omar and Rashida Talib, outright antisemites and apologists for Islamofascist terrorism who advocate the destruction of the Jewish state, with all the horrors such destruction implies. Any decent political party would repudiate these creatures, drive them out—but their Democratic colleagues manifestly tolerate them.
Where, then, is their credibility when those same Democrats denounce Donald Trump as a fascist?
Then there’s mainstream media. There is, perhaps, no more self-regarding group of people In America today than journalists. They have a remarkably high opinion of themselves: comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable, dauntless defenders of truth, justice and the American way. Well, let’s just say that Superman would not invite them to his Fortress of Solitude.
Since the day after October 7, 2023, the self-selected mission of American journalism has been to memory-hole the horrors of October 7, 2023, while minimizing if not obfuscating the vile Jew hatred of the radical Left. Here, for instance, is the Associated Press, whitewashing a call for genocide. Antisemitic campus demonstrations have been characterized as “mostly peaceful.” Calls for the destruction of the Jewish state have been branded as “antiwar demonstrations.” The condign punishment of vile rats who’ve harassed and assaulted Jews has been characterized as “assaults on free speech.”
And these offences are compounded by the relentless hostility to Israel that characterizes much of the media’s coverage of the war. False charges of Israeli atrocities and war crimes in Gaza are treated as too good to check. Dubious casualty counts produced by Hamas-controlled or Hamas-adajecent agencies and organizations are reported as fact. Israel is fiercely criticized and saddled with responsibility for the war by commentators and pundits on the air and on op-ed pages. And meanwhile, Hamas gets a pass.
How can journalists be trusted to defend “our democracy” when they behave like that?
As for that bastion of American progressivism and leftism, higher education, it now stands revealed as a bastion of virulent antisemitism and anti-Americanism. Many of the country’s elite universities have allowed themselves to be corrupted, perhaps irredeemably, by infusions of foreign money from such sources as Qatar, Hamas’ home away from home. That filthy lucre opened the door to “anti-Zionist” influences in the form of endowed chairs, tenured professorships, and academic departments. Along with the money came a flood of foreign students from Islamic countries, their full tuition and fees paid for by their governments, their visceral hostility to Jews and Israel studiously overlooked.
Given this background, it’s no wonder that “anti-Zionist” demonstrations broke out on those campuses while the bodies of those slain by Hamas on 10/7 still lay where they had fallen—no wonder that antisemitic harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence became a daily feature of campus life at schools like Harvard, Princeton, Cornell, etc. Whether because they’re cowards or because they sympathize with the views of the radical Jew haters, administrators and faculties of these universities failed in their responsibility to preserve order and put down the campus pogroms aimed at Jews. Confronted with actual fascism, they folded.
How can people like that be trusted to defend “our democracy”?
Donald Trump is a bad man who may very well be returning to the Oval Office next January. If so, though we could be in for a rough ride, America will survive. But the people discussed above will tell you that America would not survive four more years of Trump—that he and his followers are actual fascists who are plotting to destroy “our democracy” and establish a MAGA dictatorship. You can believe that or not—but before making up your mind, consider the record of the people who are making that claim. Can it be said that since 10/7, the broad Left has stood up against the spirit of hate, that it has repudiated antisemitism and Islamofascism, that it pledged its allegiance to liberal democratic values?
No. Instead, the Left put on the keffiyeh.
The left has so demonized Trump that they really believe that internment camps will be built (and that the military will aid Trump - Miley assuring the Chinese that he would not obey Trump is already forgotten).
TDS is strong among otherwise intelligent people.
But these young nihilists are plain evil.
As bad though are those in leadership positions who do nothing - they don't speak up, they don't curb the demonstrations, and they exhibit moral ambiguity.
Anecdotally, I am seeing a rising frustration among ordinary Americans.
Many people who can't stand Trump will vote for him just to get rid of the Biden administration.
If Trump wins in November, the greatest threat to democracy will most certainly come from the overreaction and overreach of the Dems and the left. They’ll likely burn it all down in an ongoing tantrum over the never ending theme of Orange Man bad.
