The buzz is that Donald Trump is set to announce is 2024 candidacy for the GOP’s presidential nomination soon—perhaps as early as next Tuesday. Too bad for him that there’s no one in his inner circle with the stones to tell him that it’s over. After engineering a midterm pratfall for the party he purports to lead, Trump is toast. It almost seems as though he hand-picked a cohort of candidates guaranteed to lose. Well, lose they did—and then came Trump’s gratuitous attacks on Ron DeSantis and Glenn Youngkin, two successful Republican governors. This put his adolescent distemper and unfitness for office on full display. In short, The Donald has blown away his image as the prohibitive 2024 Republican frontrunner. Good riddance.
Speaking of Trump, he’s also reviling Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for his refusal to pour money into the Arizona Senate election, which was lost by the former president’s man, Blake Masters. Cocaine Mitch judged, correctly, that Masters was a total dud who was unlikely to prevail in a campaign to unseat incumbent Democrat Mark Kelly. (So it proved.) Trump also reprised his complaint that McConnell had refused to help him reverse the outcome of the 2020 election. That, of course, makes him “the WORST”! Now it may be that the time has come for Mitch McConnell to step back from his leadership position—though not because he declined to ”Stop the Steal.” That was a good call…
Cynics have suggested that the Biden Administration pulled a bait-and-switch on young voters, promising them a student loan debt “forgiveness” bonanza via an executive order that it knew would never pass constitutional muster. And sure enough, a federal district court in Texas has ruled that the Biden giveaway is unconstitutional, in that it usurps congressional budget authority. So Democrats got the youth vote, and the youth vote got a baloney sandwich. Politics ain’t beanball, kids.
So it turns out that Joe Biden & Co. were right: “Our democracy” is indeed threatened! Despite the fact that the GOP led the Democrats in the national popular vote in Tuesday’s midterm elections, they didn’t score a victory commensurate with that count. We may be sure that if the situation were reversed, the comrades would be calling foul. But no, the corrupt, undemocratic system created by those racist White patriarchal slave owners is just fine with progressives—provided that progressives win.
Tissue, anyone? My eyes filled with tears when I read that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has feared for her life since she entered Congress. It’s not the first time she’s emoted about this. That she seeks to punch up her resume with claims of victimhood tells you something about Comrade Congressperson AOC. That’s just so Millennial, isn’t it? First you demand the job, then you complain about the work requirements and conditions of employment. Well, boo-hoo! I’m reminded of all those NYT staffers who said they were made to feel “unsafe” by an op-ed authored by a Republican senator. The whiny complaint and the dripping nose have become the unofficial anthem and logo of young Wokesters.
