It’s nice to see that Representative Rashida Tlaib is finally getting strafed by fellow Democrats fed up with her strident antisemitism. She is, without a doubt, one of the worst people in America, and it’s a scandal that she sits in the United States House of Representatives. No doubt Tlaib would feel more at home in the Reichstag, circa 1938.
But Rashida Talib is just one person. Let us not forget her fellow Squaddies, every one of whom seconds Tlaib’s vile Jew bashing. And behind that cabal are hundreds of thousands of so-called progressive activists who’ve taken a break from smashing capitalism and undermining the nuclear family to scream daily for the eradication of Israel and the ethnic cleansing of “Palestine” to rid it of “settler colonialists,” i.e. Jews.
Well, this is America, home of the First Amendment. And disgusting though they may be, these progressives are entitled to spew out their hate speech, provided they remain within the boundaries of the law. This remains true even though progressives have long since repudiated the principle of free speech. One can see why they have, since the best weapon against their bigotry and lies is the First Amendment itself.
Even so there are, or ought to be, limits to our toleration of this antisemitic virus. Across the country, some of the demonstrators calling for murder and genocide are not Americans at all. On university campuses, for instance, many are foreigners, guests of America. And I find myself wondering: Why should American Jews have to put up with being harassed, threatened, and assaulted by some “student activist” or faculty member from another country?
So here’s a modest proposal: Let the visas of these foreign antisemites be pulled, and let them be sent packing. Senator Tom Cotton’s on board with me here, as are other Republicans in the Senate and the House.
Oh, but Islamophobia! I can already hear the comrades shouting that word. And in reply, I can only say—bah! Any foreigner on campus, Muslim or not, who has had no part in these campus pogroms would have nothing to fear. Any who have participated but are willing formally to repudiate the program of whichever noxious antisemitic organization they belong to should be granted a free pardon. As for the rest of them—"Go, get you out! Make haste…be gone… In the name of God, go!” As Cromwell turned out the Rump Parliament, so America should turn out these unwelcome and ungrateful guests. If they’re such big fans of Hamas, let them go to Gaza and fight with Hamas.
It may be argued that such people are not antisemites. No, they’re merely “anti-Zionists.” But that excuse, so often proffered in the past, has worn out its credibility. Anyone with normal vision can see that anti-Zionism is just a cover name for the world’s oldest and most popular form of race hatred. Or it may be argued that young people who in their ignorance exhibit bad behavior should be patted on the head and directed to some “safe space.”
I suggest that Jews on our university campuses, who can find no safe spaces, should be asked for their opinion on the matter.
If those who lead and administer American higher education would enforce their own rules to stamp out campus antisemitism, the situation would soon come under control. A few exemplary expulsions, backed up if necessary by the riot police, would do the trick. But action along that line is scarcely to be expected of craven appeasers like Claudine Gay, the president of Harvard University. She and her like have long since sold out to the very worst elements of their campus communities.
And yes, I realize that our absurd president and his handlers would never listen to me and Senator Cotton. Joe & Co. are too busy combatting that phantom menace, “Islamophobia,” to bother about the festivals of hate, so reminiscent of Germany in the Thirties, now raging across America. Indeed, the Biden campaign seems worried that in 2024, their guy might lose the genocide vote.
So we’re probably stuck with these despicable Jew-bashing Hamas groupies, these poster-ripping rats from elsewhere. But we don’t have to pretend that we like them, or that they’re welcome in this country. Here, finally, cancel culture can play a constructive role.
Glad you support this. I also felt compelled to do a short post praising Cotton’s idea. It is the most reasonable idea I’ve ever heard lately. We should not be subsidizing the educations of foreigners who threaten Jews and call for the obliteration of an ally and democracy.
Great piece.
